OK... So now that I'm close to reloading myself, I face the issue of shooting multiple Martinis.  I currently have 6 in the stable.  1 Mk I, 1 Mk II, 2 Mk III's, an IC1, and the Mk I bitser.  The Mk I...

Re: Shooting multiple Martinis... size to fit all, or cases for each rifle?

FWIW, for now I have 1 577-450 rifle that won't even chamber its own fired cases - the little ZAR carbine. Even clocking the brass doesn't seem to help. I FL size those the minimum required for easy...

Re: Shooting multiple Martinis... size to fit all, or cases for each rifle?

I too have one oddity Gert. About 6 months ago I bought a Martini Artillery MkII carbine, converted from an 1874 MkI then MkII rifle. It was my second Arty MkII and I had no problems with my first....

Re: Shooting multiple Martinis... size to fit all, or cases for each rifle?

Clive, so the cqrbine had been cut through the chamber to deactivate it, and then re-welded? You are a braver man than I to shoot it! I know black powder has a relatively love chamber pressures, but...

Re: Shooting multiple Martinis... size to fit all, or cases for each rifle?

Originally I hoped to return it and as this was impossible and I dont keep wallhangers I looked to firing it. It already had a normal carbine round, 405 grain with 70 grain FF through it with no...

Re: Shooting multiple Martinis... size to fit all, or cases for each rifle?

The cut and reweld chamber is easily repaired by lining and recutting the chamber. Well, "easily" being figuratively speaking. Hardest part will be coming up with a reamer, and that points to the real...

Re: Shooting multiple Martinis... size to fit all, or cases for each rifle?

Douglas, in your opinion would a welded chamber like mine take light loads without problem given it has been 'proofed' with 5 full blackpowder rounds. or would you regard it as it as totally unsafe?...

Re: Shooting multiple Martinis... size to fit all, or cases for each rifle?

Hmmmmmmmmm. Thank you Douglas, I'll take that as an unsafe then. I am only interested in 577/450 carbines so a change of calibre using a chamber insert does not interest me. I do have a dilemma if I...

Re: Shooting multiple Martinis... size to fit all, or cases for each rifle?

Clive. If it is a potential danger (and who knows what a future owner is told by a future seller) then maybe it would be best to have it formally neutralised at St. Etienne so that there can be no...

Re: Shooting multiple Martinis... size to fit all, or cases for each rifle?

Clive, assuming you could get access to a .577/.450 reamer where you are, there's no reason why you couldn't have the existing chamber cut out, sleeved, & rechambered to the original...

Re: Shooting multiple Martinis... size to fit all, or cases for each rifle?

No, don't deact it, reline and rechamber to 577/450. I have a reamer.

Thank you Douglas, very kind, but I live in France and have no skills to do it myself.. I seem to be on a looser with this carbine. Have spent many hours this morning phoning Gunsmiths in this corner...

Re: Shooting multiple Martinis... size to fit all, or cases for each rifle?

Would there be less problems having the work done in a neighboring country (eg. Belgium or Germany) regarding re-exporting? Perhaps Gert would know of a gunsmith who would do that type of work.

Clive, you need a Carbine Morris tube! A bit hard to find - but fun shooting, and I am making the 297/230 cases. Heeled bullets are available, as too the molds. When I first read it I thought it was...
